Wisconisn has issued various types of plates for electric vehicles over the years. Beginning in 2024 all electric vehicles began receiving distinctive stickers denoting the fact that the vehicle is electric, while earlier plates for electric vehicles were produced in extremely small volumes.

This section includes the following types:

"VTAE" Electric Vehicle

Electric vehicle plates were issued to the VTAE in the mid-1970s. Only 10 pairs were ever issued.

Local EV Plates

In the late 2000s, a few towns in western Wisconsin issued local "EV" plates on motorcycle plate blanks. Little to nothing is known about these plates, though they were likely discontinued after low speed plates were introduced.

EV Stickers

In February 2024, Wisconsin began issuing "EV" stickers to vehicles that were elecrically-powered, including full EVs and hybrids. These stickers are issued to any plate that is on an electric vehicle; so far I've seen these stickers on passenger, light truck, heavy truck, official, collector, low speed, and specialty plates.
